Let Me Introduce You To.....

My oldest son, Christopher... He is the one who looks like me, sounds like me and has quite a few of my characteristics. Whenever he answers the phone, everyone starts talking to him, thinking it's me and whenever I answer, everyone asks if my mom is there. He is very responsible, reliable and is usually willing to lend a helping hand. He is wonderful with little kids...He quite often helps Heidi with her homework and even helped the neighbour boy learn to ride his bike. He is so patient, polite and kind. He even noticed one of the neighbour ladies haircut and complimented her on it. Now don't get me wrong...he's almost thirteen, so he does test us at times by coming home a little late for dinner, or talking sassy, but for the most part he's a great kid and I'm so proud of him! You're a great buddy to have, Christopher!

Nice Weather = Weeding

With all the nice weather we've been having, that can mean only one thing....lots of yard work. Our front yard pretty much takes care of itself, except for the usual maintenance, but the back yard is always a source of frustration. The weeds back there are endless and merciless...I'm sure some other lady on the other side of the world is pulling at the other end of some of those roots! Who knew I'd be an expert at rock climbing just from weeding my garden? The worst part is that the top section, just below the fence is not even our property, but the owner does nothing with it because he doesn't have to look at it, so that means I take care of it if I don't want to look at it. Luckily, last year a whole bunch of butterfly bushes reseeded themselves up there and practically disguised all the weeds. That's my new plan of action...not to get rid of the weeds, but to disguise them and make them look good. Another trick I used last year was to throw wild flowers up top. This year, we plan to plant a few low trees to kind of hide the rocks and weeds and give the illusion of having a more private yard. I'd also like to fit a pond in somewhere. Dreams and plans....sounds like another trip to Home Depot will be in order soon!

The Pressure Is On!

Wow! When I started my blog a few weeks ago, I had no idea people were actually going to read it...now the pressure is on to find something interesting to write about and be witty doing it. I did buy myself a toy the other day that will make things more fun. A digital camera! I've taken two pictures so far and thought I'd post one today, just for practice. It's a picture of my Easter Lily. I've always wanted one and this year I finally got one. Here it is....

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter to all! This morning we were awakened by the pitter patter of little feet and whispering....then things got louder as the cat discovered all the beautiful little shiny eggs scattered throughout the house for her. This was the start of our Easter egg hunt. The kids found their stuff pretty fast, so next it was time to get ready for church.
The last couple of months, we've been attending a new church. Our neighbours started going to Ross Road Community Church some time back and invited us to try it out. We've been thinking of trying something different for awhile now and this seems to be a really good fit so far. I'm quite excited about the possibilities. I guess this is part of my "baby steps" plan. Some of my next steps are to get involved in the church in some way and to get baptized. Exciting months ahead of me! And thanks to my blog, I'll have you along with me every step of the way....

Hi Ho, Hi Ho.....

It's off to work I go! I've been working all week and it seems like nothing much exciting has been happening in between. In fact, it seems like even on my days off I'm working. There's laundry to do, vacuuming, bathrooms to clean, and the list goes on. I guess the goal of a blog is to get creative and make my boring life seem exciting, so here it goes.
Tonight I'm going on a date...with Antonio Banderas. He and I are going to dance the night away. My mom will be our chaperone. That's code for...I'm going to see "Take the Lead" with my mom tonight. Groan!
Anyhow, I'm taking off a few well-deserved days now, so I'm sure something exciting is bound to happen and then I'll have better reading material for all my fans! ;)

Deal or No Deal?

My family and I are totally hooked on a new show we discovered a few weeks back....Deal or No Deal. For those of you who haven't come across this game show yet, it's a show of sheer luck and a little bit of gambling. I love it because you don't have to be smart to play and it's open to residents of Canada. You start by picking one suitcase out of twenty-six and hope that it has a high dollar amount in it, preferably one million dollars. That suitcase is left unopened and you start to open other suitcases to narrow down what amount yours might hold. Every so often the banker phones and offers you an amount to stop playing. Obviously, he offers you more when the chances are good that you're going to win a big amount. You should see my youngest son when this show is on....he's bouncing on the couch with excitement, waiting to see what amount each suitcase holds. Tonight it was bedtime while I was watching it, and he kept calling me from his bedroom to ask what amount the lady opened. It's very entertaining just watching him get so excited. Perhaps we're a sad bunch living vicariously through other people, but it's just so much darn fun seeing people win money and wishing it were you! Hmmm....I think I might go and check out NBC's website tonight!

Home Improvement

The last year, every time I turn around my husband is at Home Depot. I mean, three or four times in one day! You see, we've embarked upon the mother of all home improvements...finishing our basement. First, it was all the wiring and plumbing, then the drywall went up. I thought once the paint was on and the floor was installed, that meant we were done. Boy, was I wrong! There is trim to paint and put up, doors to paint and install, and recently we've been working on getting the bathroom in working order. We've got a working toilet and just bought a cabinet for the sink tonight. That, of course, means the next trip will involve picking out a counter top...and on and on it goes. I could go on forever with all the projects that have been started and are either almost finished or have been waiting for several years to be finished, and then there's the wish list of projects my husband hasn't even started yet, but is already planning. Thinking on the positive side, there will always be something to look forward to around here. And after all, they do call it a Home Improvement!

Adventures in Babysitting

Tonight I had the priviledge of babysitting my two month old niece. Okay, I practically begged to babysit her. I emailed her parents and told them I was having withdrawals and needed to see her. I meant that I wanted them to send me some new pics, but this was even better. I got to kiss her chubby little cheeks, change her cute little bottom, and try to make her laugh...then when she started fussing, mommy came and picked her up. Watching her grow up is a great reminder of how fast the years go by and how much I should enjoy every moment of my own kids lives. I hope her and I have many more adventures in babysitting in the future!

Getting Started

Well, I've finally done it. I've decided to start a blog. The hardest part, after deciding to just go ahead and do it, was thinking of an interesting, catchy name. You'd think the whole world was going to read my blog or something. Anyways, I finally came to the decision to call it "Baby Steps". First of all because it reminds me of one of my fave movies "What About Bob?" and secondly, I've been on a mission lately to improve upon many things about myself and thought it would be fitting. As I'm composing this, I'm getting excited about the possibilities of this whole blog thing. Well, that's enough creativity for one night. Let me know how I did and what you think world!
